The amazing film 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered in Washington, DC, on this date in 1968. In 2016 I wrote a series of posts about the film and how existing and foreseeable space technology might yet make the journeys it depicts possible. Enjoy!

  1. on February 17, 1964 Stanley Kubrick wanted to make the "Perfect" Movie, on April 2, 1968 he released it
I think he made the "Perfect" Movie, 50 year later and this movie still inspire people
it not lost its mysticism, its Space Hardware still look realistic
while allot of other Sci-Fi-movies after 2001 were caught up by reality...

I recommend highly, the 2001 series by Cinema Tyler on Youtube
This 7 parts goes deeply into the way, how that Genius made this masterpiece and push beyond the limits

    1. Thanks for the links, Michel!

I recall reading that 2001's budget was $10 million by the time it was done. That's be a "B" movie budget nowadays, but back then it was huge - some predicted the film would fail terribly and sink MGM. Hah - they were wrong!
